Bad Behavior

Bad Behavior has no place on the course—ever!!

I saw something Sunday at the final round of the Valero Texas Open that makes me shake my head.  I saw Scott Piercy following a 9 on the final hole of the tournament slam his putter mercilessly into the ground and then proceed to break the club in two over his leg.  He exited the final green without shaking hands with his playing partners and then the display of ugly unsportsmanlike behavior.

The CBS cameras stayed with the whole incident as they could sense something was going to happen and it did.  I could just hear it now in the CBS production truck..the director in the ear of the camera operator on the 18th green it probably went something like this.  “Stay with him…stay with him….stay with him—keep with him…ouch that club has seen a better day….”.  I’m sure Piercy was as hot as he perhaps has ever been on the course—the 9 cost him about $140,000 in prize money and of course an undisclosed fine from the Tour.  To me it cost him a lot more—his reputation—maybe he and other players don’t care what the public thinks of them but one thing I know for certain I will never look at Scott Piercy the same way.  I will always remember his tantrum.  Now I am a forgiving person and he can get on my better side again and I hope he will but the incident was ugly and disappointing.  He needs to make a major apology at his earliest convenience.  Come on Scott, you are a Professional Golfer—not just a PGA Tour player, act like one.
